Tiare Lund is a renowned New Zealand triathlete from Kumeū, celebrated for her outstanding achievements in endurance sports. She began competing in triathlons in 1985 and has been participating in Ironman events since 1987. Lund achieved international recognition when she won the 65–69 age group at the 2011 Ironman World Championships in Hawaii. At the age of 66, she led her category from start to finish, with standout performances in the swim, bike, and marathon segments, completing the grueling race in 13 hours, 25 minutes, and 4 seconds—15 minutes ahead of her nearest competitor. Despite setbacks, including injuries that sidelined her in 2009 and 2010, Lund demonstrated remarkable resilience and determination. Her success is a testament to her dedication to the sport and her role as a significant contributor to the triathlon community in New Zealand. Lund’s involvement with the WTMC reflected her commitment to fostering a supportive environment for aspiring and experienced triathletes alike as she willingly shared her experience and knowledge with fellow athletes and exemplified all that it means to be a club member.
